Koycegiz Village and Lake Koycegiz

koycegiz boatKoycegiz is a very traditional Turkish village, located on the edge of the beautiful Lake Koycegiz. The village remains relatively unchanged by the surge in new building of the last ten or fifteen years and retains plenty of it's original charm. With the draw of the lake, this makes Koycegiz a refreshingly different experience for a day out.

Lake Koycegiz is a fairly substantial body of water, at it's south end it outlets to the Dalyan delta and onto the sea following the river to Iztuzu Beach. At the opposite (north) end, is tranquil and laid back Koycegiz. The village itself is a pleasant place to walk around - pretty residential streets lead into a koycegiz townvillage centre of narrow streets of shops - and restaurants serving traditional pides and delicious Turkish casseroles (guvec), while battling for space for their tables and chairs. Prices are surprisingly good.

All roads tend to lead to the square, where you can find a few more restaurants and shops, and a few dozen yards more to the lake. The main area along the lake front is very pleasantly koycegiz lake side cafespedestrianised, and lined with cafe bars with seating. There is often a very pleasant breeze coming from the lake, making these cafes a great place to spend a lazy hour or two - but as with most things in life, they are generally quite a lot pricier than the pide restaurants mentioned earlier! You can also take a boat trip on the lake during the summer season - stalls are also  found along the pedestrianised lake front, and these trips also offer excellent value.

Koycegiz is around one hour from Fethiye. Hiring a car will allow you to explore along the route too, but the village is very easy to reach by public transport. For all details see our Fethiye to Koycegiz Route and Map.
