Fethiye Restaurants: Dining Gems - Megri Lokantasi |
|
The Megri Lokantasi is a firm favourite in the centre of Fethiye - and has been for years. A great example of a lokanta style restaurant, where the food is cheap, wholesome and filling - everything is prepared and you can either choose from a menu or just head inside and point at the dishes you like.
There are no rules, and this is economy dining so you can try a few dishes - you can have whatever you like. The Turkish diet relies heavily on vegetable dishes (through economic necessity as much as anything) so not only are vegetarians likely to love places like the Megri, but centuries of developing vegetable dishes into very tasty recipes means they are popular with nearly everyone - so it's worth trying things you maybe wouldn't pick in the UK, courgette or aubergine for example - you may be very surprised!
The Megri Lokantasi also has a traditional lamb kebap menu with the meat turning all day long. Just to repeat - this is nothing like anything by a similar name you may have experienced on the way home from the pub in the UK! Wonderfully flavoursome lamb, cooked to perfection makes the base for dishes like Iskender Kebap - lamb served over cubed Turkish bread and served with a tomato based sauce and natural yoghurt - don't knock it till you've tried it, there are many converts who initially turned their nose up!
The Megri Lokantasi is located on the edge of Paspatur - Fethiye's narrow shopping and dining lanes - From the main street that has the banks and Burger King, turn into the one way road at the yellow change shop and the Megri is around 100 metres up on the right, just before the road starts to bend left. Have a look at the dishes of the day inside then find your seat outside.
