Restaurants Worth the Drive: Kirk Pinar - Nif

nif kirk pinar restaurantA very impressive restaurant found in a fairly unimpressive building - and around three quarters of an hours drive from Fethiye - so what is it that makes the easy to miss Kirk Pinar (Forty Springs) restaurant, in an area offering not very much else worthy of special note...

Firstly, it is important to make clear that you will definitely need to hire a car (or convince someone with a car to take you) if you want to experience Kirk Pinar. That sorted, you are in for a real Turkish treat. This fairly ramshackle, basic wooden building sits Nif Kirk Pinar Restaurant - Bread Ovenback from the road, and offers some of the freshest food around. Breakfast is the most popular offering here - bread is made on the premises and cooked in the oven right on fornt of you in the restaurant. The hot bread is served to the table, along with a fabulous healthy Turkish breakfast selection - fresh butter made locally, local honey and jams, local cheese, local tomatoes...you get the idea. The area is high above Fethiye in terms of altitude and this adds to the experience - lovely mountain air (and often snow, even when Fethiye is warm and sunny) make this an experience that feels very healthy and good for you. It isn't just a breakfast place either - lunches and dinner including wonderful local lamb recipes and dishes are available too.

Kirk Pinar is now a very poorly kept secret and using the traditional adage that you should "eat Nif forty springs restaurant where the locals eat" - then this very much fits the bill. Due to this, weekends are best avoided if you don't want to wait for a table (and it can be quite a long wait sometimes) - as Kirk Pinar is packed with Turkish families along with British and others enjoying the atmosphere - it is a lovely place to be amongst them, but you might get very hungry waiting. It is a place to unwind, take your time and relax - nobody is in any great rush to leave!

To get to Kirk Pinar it is fairly easy, you more or less just follow one road. You need to head from Fethiye towards Uzumlu, following road signs for Denizli. Drive through Uzumlu, past Incirkoy, then 15-20 minutes of driving slowly uphill later you pass a sign for the village of Nif. Around 5-10 minutes further on from the Nif turn off there is a road turning right that looks like it has a no entry or road closed sign. It isn't closed, turn there (there is a Kirk Pinar sign) and follow the little road to the car park to the front of the restaurant. From Fethiye the total driving time is around 45-50 minutes, longer if you admire the views en route, of which there are many.
